Central Florida Dock Repair Contractor

Every summer, right after the first line of June storms rolls across Marion County, the same call comes in: “My dock’s looking rough — can this be fixed, or do I need a new one?” It’s the right question, and the internet usually gives you two bad answers: a handyman who’ll screw fresh boards over anything, and a dock salesman whose answer to every problem is a tear-out.

JSC Contracting is a marine construction company first — docks, boathouses, seawalls and boat lifts are the work this company was built on — and we repair docks across Central Florida the same way we build them: pilings and framing first, decking second, honest answer always. We repair docks we built and docks other people built, from Lake Weir and Ocklawaha up through Ocala and Silver Springs, out to Crystal River and the Nature Coast. There’s no minimum job, so “just fix the bad section” is a real option here, not a brush-off.

What We Repair

Decking, Rails and Re-Decks

Soft, cupped or splintering boards are the most common dock repair in Florida, and the easiest. We replace the bad boards, or re-deck the whole surface in pressure-treated wood or composite on framing that’s still sound. A re-deck is also the moment to upgrade: new rails, a ladder into the water, lights, or a switch from wood to composite so you stop sealing every other year.

Dock Pilings

Pilings are the skeleton of the dock, and the waterline is where they fail. Soft spots and “hourglassing” at the splash zone caught early can be wrapped or sleeved to buy years. Pilings that have worked loose in a sand bottom get re-driven or sistered deeper. Pilings rotted through get replaced — one or two is a repair, a whole row is the start of a different conversation.

Framing, Stringers and Hardware

Rot hides under the decking. We probe stringers and joists, replace what’s gone soft, and swap corroded fasteners and rust-streaked bolts at the dock head, where the boat, the lift and the roof load all live. A dock that wobbles usually needs hardware and bracing, not a rebuild.

Storm Damage

Docks are modular. A section wrecked by wind, wake or debris can be rebuilt to match the rest. If more than half the structure is compromised, we document everything so your insurer has what it needs, and give you a written estimate either way.

Boat Lift Repair and Service

A healthy lift hums. Grinding, straining, or one corner coming up slower than the other means the drivetrain wants attention now, while it’s still a small bill. Cables, pulleys, motors and gearboxes are wear items — designed to be serviced, and we service them on any brand of lift, not just the ones we installed.

  • Cable replacement — frayed strands, flat spots and rust bloom mean the cables are due. A cable that fails under load drops the boat.
  • Motor and gearbox replacement — on saltwater lifts along the Nature Coast this comes around faster than freshwater owners expect.
  • Re-leveling and cable adjustment — a lift that sits crooked is usually a cable job. If the lift is level but the pilings holding it have moved, that’s a piling job, and we do both.
  • Full lift replacement — bent cradle beams, or a lift that was never rated for the boat it’s carrying, get an honest replace-it answer. New lifts carry a 3-year manufacturer warranty, and we’ll reinforce the dock if a bigger lift needs it.

Buying a new lift instead of fixing one? That’s on our boat lift installation in Central Florida page.

Fix or Replace? How We Decide

A dock is two structures wearing one outfit. The decking and rails are the outfit — they take the sun and the foot traffic, and they’re meant to be replaced. The pilings, stringers and framing are the skeleton, and they decide whether the dock is worth saving. Ugly decking on sound pilings is a repair, every time. Fresh boards over rotten pilings is money spent on a dock that’s exactly as close to failing as it was.

The second rule is the one every trade uses: when the honest repair estimate crosses roughly half the cost of replacing the structure, replacement wins, because a dock that needs that much work rarely stops there.

What Dock and Boat Lift Repairs Cost in Central Florida

Every repair is priced from your actual dock, but you deserve a neighborhood before anyone steps on your property. These are typical Central Florida ranges as of 2026. Your water, your bottom and the scope set the real number, and you get that number in writing after we walk the dock.

RepairTypical range (2026)
Re-decking on sound framingAbout a third to half the cost of a new dock — the structure is the expensive part, and it’s staying
Piling wrap or sleeve$150–$500 per piling
Piling replacement$300–$1,000+ per piling — sand bottoms low, rock and clay high
Boat lift cables$300–$800
Lift motor replacement$800–$2,000
Full lift replacement, installed$8,000–$25,000+ depending on capacity
Full dock rebuild (the yardstick)$40–$60 per square foot — see what a dock costs in Central Florida

Run the half-the-cost rule against that last row. A few pilings, a re-deck or a lift drivetrain refresh sits comfortably on the repair side. Soft framing plus a row of failed pilings plus a tired lift starts stacking toward rebuild money — and at that point you’re better off with a structure engineered once for how your water actually behaves, backed by our lifetime labor warranty.

How a Repair Visit Works

  1. Call or send us the problem. A couple of phone photos of the bad section help us show up with the right answer.
  2. We walk the dock. Screwdriver in the pilings at the waterline, a look under the decking at the stringers, hands on the lift cables, a cycle of the lift. Structural versus cosmetic, sorted on the spot.
  3. Written quote, on site. Repair what’s worth repairing, replace what isn’t, and the number to compare against a rebuild so the decision is yours with real figures.
  4. Scheduled and done. Most repairs are a day or two of crew time. We clean up as we go and walk it with you when we’re finished.

Work we do is backed by JSC’s lifetime labor warranty: if something we’re responsible for needs attention, we make it right. There’s no minimum job, and no pressure to rebuild a dock that only needs boards.

Where We Work

Where We Repair Docks and Boat Lifts

We’re based in Silver Springs, just east of Ocala, and our crews repair docks across Marion, Lake, Sumter, Citrus, Levy, Alachua and Putnam counties. Where your dock stands changes what’s killing it:

  • Sand-bottom lakes — Lake Weir, Lake Kerr, Lake George, the Harris Chain, and the private lakes around Belleview, Ocklawaha, The Villages and Leesburg. The enemy is loosening, not corrosion: shallow-set pilings work loose out at the dock head, and lake levels that rise and fall with the water table age wood at the waterline fast. We wrote up how we design around that on Lake Weir and Lake George.
  • Rivers and springs — the Rainbow River, the Ocklawaha, the Withlacoochee and the Silver River. Current and boat wake work the fasteners and the dock head hardware.
  • Salt and brackish water — Crystal River, Homosassa and the Nature Coast. The enemy is chemistry: salt chews lift cables and hardware on a schedule freshwater owners wouldn’t believe, and rock-and-clay bottoms make piling work slower, which makes saving sound pilings worth more. Seawall problems out here are covered on our seawall construction and repair page and in our Crystal River seawall inspection guide.

Dock and Boat Lift Repair Questions We Hear Most

Straight answers to what Central Florida dock owners ask us before they call.

How much does dock repair cost in Central Florida?
A re-deck on sound framing typically runs a third to half the cost of a new dock. Piling wraps run about $150–$500 per piling, piling replacement $300–$1,000+ depending on the bottom, and lift cables or motors a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars. Those are typical 2026 ranges. The real number comes in writing after we walk your dock, and there’s no minimum job.
Do you repair docks and boat lifts that JSC didn’t build?
Yes. Most of the repair work we do is on docks other people built. We’ll tell you honestly what’s worth saving and what isn’t, whoever built it.
Can my boat lift be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?
Cables, pulleys, motors and gearboxes are wear items and are almost always a repair, on any brand. Bent cradle beams, or a lift that was never rated for the boat on it, are a replacement. New lifts we install carry a 3-year manufacturer warranty.
Should I wrap a damaged piling or replace it?
If the damage at the waterline is caught early and the piling is still carrying load, a wrap or sleeve buys years for a fraction of replacement. Once a piling has rotted or hourglassed through, it gets replaced. One or two is a repair; a whole row means we talk about the structure.
Do I need a permit to repair my dock in Florida?
It depends on the scope. Like-for-like repairs such as re-decking often don’t, while replacing pilings or changing the dock’s footprint can involve the county or the water management district. We check before we start and handle any permitting that applies, the same as on our new builds.
My dock was damaged in a storm. Will insurance cover the repair?
That’s between you and your policy, but we make the claim easier: photograph everything before anything is touched, and we’ll provide the written assessment and itemized estimate insurers ask for. Docks are modular, so a wrecked section can usually be rebuilt to match.
How fast can you come look at it?
Usually within days, and our goal is to quote the repair on site the same visit. Send a couple of photos with your call and we’ll show up already knowing what we’re walking into.
